Dental Crowns in Hampstead, London

Dental Crowns are covers or caps that fit over your natural teeth and can be used for many purposes. They can be made to perfectly resemble the shape and colour of your original teeth, which makes them a functional, cosmetic solution.

There are a number of reasons why dentists may suggest a crown for your tooth. For example, there may be a cavity that is too large for a filling to work. Alternatively it may also be to protect the tooth after a root canal treatment. Dental Crowns can be even used to cover a poorly shaped or discoloured tooth.

Dental Crowns can be made from a variety of materials. These include a ceramic material such as porcelain, a metal such as gold or a combination of both.

The materials we can use for your crown usually depend on the reason for needing it and also the location of the tooth needing the crown.

From a cosmetic perspective, the latest advances in ceramic now allow us to create crowns which are indistinguishable from your own natural teeth. This can be done both in front and in the back of the mouth.

Normally, two visits to our practice are required for your dental crowns to be fitted correctly. At the first visit, we would prepare your tooth for the crown, take impressions, and fit a temporary crown. We will also note the colour of the teeth either side of where the crown will be fitted. This allows us to ensure that the colour of the custom crown matches those colours. We aim for the final result to look completely natural.

At the second visit, we remove the temporary crown. The teeth are thoroughly cleaned, polished and your bespoke crown is fitted.

To ensure the procedure is comfortable, we use a local anaesthetic in the process. Therefore, after the fitting there can be a little bit of discomfort in the gums around the tooth for a short time. If you would like more information about Dental Crowns please Contact Us.
