Age is no barrier when it comes to straightening teeth!

14/04/2018
A straighter smile can make the world of difference to your face. Orthodontic treatment can achieve jaw-dropping results and it can improve the health of your teeth and gums. Crooked teeth are harder to keep clean and can therefore contribute to tooth decay and gum disease.

Regardless of the type of brace you choose – fixed or removable, clear or metal – they ultimately work in the same way – gently moving your crooked teeth little by little using gentle forces.
As your teeth move, the alveolar bone that surrounds them remodels to support their new position. Once your brace is removed it’s important to wear retainers to give your teeth enough time to settle in their new position.

We’re proud to offer our patients a wide range of different braces, so together we can find the one that’s right for you. Not every brace is suitable for every patient, which is one of the reasons we invite you for a consultation at our Hampstead Orthodontic practice. However, if you’re not quite ready to come and see us, here’s an overview of the different braces available at Heath Street Dental, Orthodontic and Implant Centre.

Fixed Braces
These traditional fixed metal braces remain the type of treatment most commonly fitted by orthodontists in the UK, particularly for children.
They consist of very small metal brackets attached to a wire that are placed on the front of your teeth.
They are popular with teenagers as they can be brightened up with different colours to make the smile unique.

Clear Fixed Braces
The Clear fixed braces provide all the benefits of a fixed train track braces in a more discreet package.
Instead of metal brackets they feature clear or tooth-coloured brackets and sometimes tooth-coloured wires, too. This helps them to blend in discreetly with your smile.

Lingual Braces
Lingual braces are an ingenious answer to the growing demand for ‘invisible’ braces. Lingual braces are completely hidden from sight and they’re virtually undetectable. The back surfaces of your teeth are less uniform, so lingual braces are usually custom-made to fit your teeth. This provides your clinician with precise control and you with fantastic results.

Invisalign Braces
Invisalign straightens your teeth using a series of nearly invisible, removable aligners that are custom-made specifically for your teeth.
The aligners work by placing gentle, sustained pressure on specific teeth, moving them slowly into their new position. Invisalign is considered to have revolutionised orthodontic treatment and is an increasingly popular alternative to traditional braces.
To get the best results from Invisalign, you wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day and remove them for eating, drinking and brushing. This makes the Invisalign system very convenient; You can enjoy your favourite food, without worrying about your brace.
